Following up on a very fun senior portrait session with James last fall, I went to the CAPA High School dance department’s Senior Concert.  James choreographed and performed a dance to “The Winner Is” by Devotchka.  Here are a few of my favorite photos from his performance:

In other news:

It’s been a long, cold, rainy, snowy winter and I’m very excited to get started on the 2011 wedding season!

There have been a lot of exciting things going on here at Joe Appel Photography.  As some of you may know, I’ve left my job as a newspaper photographer to concentrate my efforts fully on weddings, portraits, and freelance editorial work.  It was a wonderful 17 years of working as a photojournalist for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

There’s nothing quite like the experience of shooting for a daily newspaper.  Typically I would shoot 2-3 assignments a day under the pressure of a deadline.  Extrapolate that over 17 years and it comes out to well over 10,000 photo assignments!

It’s this body of knowledge and experience that I bring to each commission.

2011 promises to be a fantastic year – I’m thrilled to be working with a bunch of really great couples in the season ahead!
