Over the past few weeks I’ve had some fun and interesting shoots, so I thought I’d step away from weddings and post a couple of photos from an engagement session and an anniversary party.
Ed and Hutch recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a gathering of family and friends at the LeMont Restaurant on Mt. Washington. They’re both in their 80’s and it was immediately apparent to me that they share a deep love that comes from building a life together. On a table near the entrance to the party were some photos from their wedding in 1951. I don’t know who the photographer was, but I really appreciate the craftsmanship that went into making those images. I brought one over to Ed and Hutch so I could photograph them holding it. Their expressions haven’t changed at all.
A few days before that, I met Becky and Zack at Highland Park for their engagement session. Looking at their photos I was struck with the image of a couple at the beginning of their lives together.
While photographing a wedding I’m documenting the first day of a couple’s married life. Honoring that very important personal history by telling the story through my photos is very important to me. Events like Ed and Hutch’s drive that point home. I hope that at Becky and Zack’s 60th anniversary party in 2072, some young photographer sees these photos and those from their wedding and recognizes that same spark of love that was evident in 2011.
