A few weeks ago, Steve called me to ask if I’d be available to photograph a marriage proposal on Mount Washington. He planned to ask his girlfriend Emily to marry him. I commented that he must be pretty certain she was going to say “Yes” to him if he was asking a photographer to come along to document the event!
You’ve probably already guessed the outcome, or else I likely wouldn’t be blogging about the event:) Steve is a meticulous planner, he had a timeline that involved many accomplices. It turned out to be a lot of fun, and I enjoyed playing my part. Here are the photos:
Steve (left), his friend Joe and Emily’s friend Lex gathered at the observation platform along Grandview Ave. across from St. Mary of the Mount.
Emily was due to arrive at any minute, so Steve went across the street to hide:
Meanwhile, Lex and Joe kept an eye open for Emily from the front porch of the rectory:
Doh! They went to the wrong observation platform! Emily was kind enough to take this couple’s photo for them while she waited with her mom and dad for what she thought was going to be a birthday dinner for her dad at LeMont Restaurant.
After some fast thinking, Lex and Joe strolled over to the observation platform. Emily was surprised to see Lex, but she was about to get a bigger surprise on the phone that Joe was talking on:
Steve’s parents and Emily’s parents stood around her while Steve talked on speakerphone and told Emily about his feelings for her:
When he was done, Lex handed Emily a card from Steve and she read it aloud. That gave Steve time to run over and get into position:
When Emily finished reading the card, their parents stepped aside to reveal Steve kneeling. That’s when he popped the question:
I love the look of surprise on Emily’s face:
The ladies were all very happy:
